Mikael Hed, the chief executive at Rovio, has announced that the game developer is mulling over laying off a maximum of 130 staff members in Finland, a number equivalent to 16 per cent of its entire workforce.
A spokesperson at Rovio declined to comment further on the matter when reached by Helsingin Sanomat on Thursday.
“A sad day,” tweeted Peter Vesterbacka, the chief marketing officer at the game studio.
Altogether, the creator of the Angry Birds franchise provides employment to 814 people.
Earlier this autumn, Rovio announced that Hed will take over the reins of Rovio Animation Studios and be succeeded as chief executive by Pekka Rantala, a former executive at Hartwall Finland and Fazer Brands.
