Investment platform Nordnet has temporarily shut down its website and mobile app after customers reported being able to access other users' accounts. The company confirmed the issue on Monday, stating that it took immediate action as a precaution.
"We take these reports seriously and are investigating the problem," said Johan Tidestad, Nordnet’s Head of Communications, in an interview with Helsingin Sanomat.
He advised customers to contact Nordnet’s customer service if they have concerns.
According to Nordnet, the issue affected all four countries where the company operates—Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Denmark. Nordnet is based in Sweden and specialises in online stock and fund trading.
Several users reported on social media that after logging in, they found themselves in another person’s account, seeing details such as stock portfolios and fund holdings.
Suvi Tuppurainen, Nordnet’s Country Manager for Finland, told Yle that while customers could see others’ investment accounts, they were not able to transfer assets due to safeguards in place.
One Nordnet user told Yle that after logging in, they saw another person’s stock holdings and name instead of their own portfolio. The user logged out and back in, after which their own account details were displayed correctly.
Nordnet has not provided an estimate for when the issue will be resolved but said it is working to fix the problem as quickly as possible.
