The Helsinki Regional Transport Authority (HSL) is launching a sales promotion campaign that will include some of the largest discounts in Helsinki’s public transport history, reports Helsingin Sanomat.

From 17 August onwards, customers will be able to purchase a 30-day season ticket for adults at half the standard price. For instance, a season ticket for two zones (AB and BC) which otherwise costs 62.70 will be available for 31.30 euros during the campaign.

The offer will be valid for all zones in the area (A,B,C and D) till 15 September. According to HSL, this will be the largest discount on public transport fares ever offered in Helsinki.

Students and those over the age of 70 can also avail of a 50 per cent discount instead of the standard 45 per cent during the campaign. The reduced prices only apply to tickets that are purchased through the HSL app. Children will not receive an additional discount.

The regional transport authority has been struggling to cope with the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has significantly reduced passenger numbers and sales.

“We welcome back all those who haven’t used public transport for a long time. If you haven’t yet used the HSL app, now is a good time to try it,” HSL’s Director of Customer Experience and Sales Mari Flink stated in a press release.
