Merja Kyllönen from the Left Alliance will become a member of The Committee of Transport and Tourism.      The committee positions of Finnish Members of the European Parliament have been confirmed. The European Parliament voted on the proposal on the allocation of positions yesterday.

The committees are central channels of influence within the European Parliament, as their members are responsible for drafting bills and processing proposals by the Commission and Council.

Sampo Terho from the Finns Party will become a member of The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs, and a substitute member of The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy. His fellow party member Jussi Halla-aho will receive deputy membership in The Committee on Transport and Tourism.

Nils Torvald (Swedish People’s Party) is set to become a member of Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and a substitute member of The Committee on Budgets and The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Merja Kyllönen from the Left Alliance will become a member of The Committee of Transport and Tourism.

The committee positions for members of the Social Democratic Party, National Alliance and Centre Party were practically decided Wednesday afternoon. Heidi Hautala from the Greens Party announced her own committee positions last week. Hautala will become a member of The Committee on Budgetary Control, and The Committee on Legal Affairs.

Petri Sarvamaa  (NCP) will become the first Vice Chairperson of The Committee on Budgets and a member of The Committee on Budgetary Control. Sarvamaa will also be a member of The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs.

Henna Virkkunen (NCP) will become a member of The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, as well as a deputy member of The Committee of Transport and Tourism.

Chairperson of The National Coalition’s parliamentarians Sirpa Pietikäinen will become a member of The Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs. Pietikäinen will also become a substitute member of The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, as well as the Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality.

Anneli Jäätteenmäki from the Centre Party will become a member of The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety. Jäätteenmäki will also become a deputy member of The Committee on Budgets, The Committee on Foreign Affairs, as well as the Subcommittee on Security and Defence.

Olli Rehn (Centre Party) will become a member of The Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety, and a deputy member of The Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development.

Paavo Väyrynen (Centre Party) will become the Vice Chairperson of The Committee on Development and a deputy member of The Committee on oreign Affairs.

Liisa Jaakonsaari (SDP) will be a member of The Committee on Internal Market and Consumer Protection. Fellow party member Miapetra Kumpula-Natri will become a member of The Committee on Industry, Research and Energy and a deputy member of The Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.
