The Finnish wind power pioneer, Tuuliwatti Oy, will begin construction on Finland’s largest wind farm in Ahlainen, Pori. The farm – consisting of 12 new 4.5-megawatt wind turbines, with a combined production capacity of 54 megawatts – is estimated to cost 75 million euros. Plans for the Ahlainen wind farm have been afoot since late 2008. The company expects some of the turbines to generate electricity by year-end and the wind farm to reach full capacity by the summer of 2014. The Satakunta region is among Tuuliwatti Oy’s focus areas, with additional wind farms expected to sprout also in Luvia, Merikarvia and Siikainen.
