Helsinki Region Transport (HSL) will introduce its winter timetable from 10 August, bringing more frequent public transport services across the capital region as commuters return after the summer break.
The timetable change will increase the number of bus, tram and train services, while several routes suspended for the summer will return to operation.
The new schedules will take effect across most of the HSL network on 10 August. In Tuusula, Kerava, Siuntio, Kirkkonummi and Sipoo, winter timetables will begin on 12 or 13 August to match the start of the local school year.
HSL said suburban rail services would return to near-normal levels after months of disruption caused by infrastructure works.
North Haaga and Kannelmäki stations will reopen to passengers, allowing I and P trains to resume running around the entire Ring Rail Line. Malminkartano station will remain closed until 7 September while work continues.
Construction at the Malminkartano tunnel will also limit I and P train frequencies between Helsinki, Huopalahti and Myyrmäki until 4 October. Services on that section will run every 20 minutes instead of their normal timetable.
A and L trains will return to service, with trains once again stopping at Valimo, Pitäjänmäki and Mäkkylä stations. K trains will resume their regular 10-minute frequency, while I and P trains between Helsinki, Tikkurila, Helsinki Airport and Myyrmäki will also return to their standard interval.
D trains, which operate between Helsinki and Riihimäki during peak commuting hours, will also return.
Tuomarila station will remain closed until at least 5 October, according to current plans. Replacement bus routes 224X and 224K will continue serving passengers, with route 224K entering service on 10 August.
HSL said several bus routes would operate more frequently, while seasonal services would return. Bus routes 22, 55, 81 and 105 will follow new alignments designed to provide more direct connections in Helsinki, including new links to Hietalahti and Jätkäsaari.
Several bus routes that have been operating on temporary diversions will return to their normal routes. Bus route 16 will be withdrawn.
Tram services in central Helsinki will also increase in frequency from 10 August.
From 31 August, tram routes will be altered after Runeberginkatu in the Töölö district closes to tram traffic because of construction work.
The long-running West Helsinki tram project will continue to affect routes 1, 2 and 8 until the end of 2027, based on current estimates.
Tram route 5 will be extended to Jätkäsaari, although passengers travelling to Töölö will need to change trams. HSL said further route adjustments are expected at the end of August because of other construction projects across the tram network.
