As summer approaches, the opening of the outdoor swimming pools is eagerly anticipated in Helsinki, and for many, the Uimastadion pool signals the beginning of summer. This year, Uimastadion will open on Mother's Day, Sunday, May 14th, at 9:00 am. The pool will be open until September 10th. The Kumpula outdoor pool, on the other hand, will be open from May 21st to August 20th, 2023.

Filling the Uimastadion pools began on Sunday, May 7th, due to renovation work. It takes approximately 4-5 days to fill the pools, and another 5-7 days to heat the water to 27°C. Therefore, it is possible that the water in the pools may not be at 27°C at the very beginning.

To celebrate the opening of Uimastadion and Mother's Day, the first 100 customers will receive free coffee. In addition, two water aerobics sessions are included in the admission fee for the opening day. The first water aerobics session will be held at the diving pool at 10:00 am, and the second session will be held at noon. The water aerobics sessions last for 45 minutes, and the maximum number of participants is 50 people.

On the opening day, DJ RNo will perform at Uimastadion, who has gained fame in both Finnish and international venues. DJ RNo's laid-back set includes new hits and old classics. The music starts early in the morning and continues throughout the day.

Uimastadion has also been prepared for summer. The entrance has been renovated, and new bicycle racks have been set up outside. In addition, the popular activities from previous summers, such as a versatile outdoor gym, outdoor floorball court, basketball and beach volleyball courts, ping pong tables, indoor gym, giant chess area, children's play areas, and picnic tables with gaming areas, can be found in the pool area. Visitors can also borrow equipment such as floorball, basketball, and beach volleyball gear, as well as chess pieces, in exchange for a deposit. There is also a café-restaurant on the premises to cater to the visitors' needs.

Kumpula outdoor pool opens to the beat of urban rhythms

The charming Kumpula outdoor pool will open a week after Uimastadion on Sunday, May 21st, at 9:00 am. The pool, with its indoor and outdoor areas, has been prepared to the highest standard for the summer. The opening day at Kumpula will feature Finnish rapper Stoge, who will perform three sets on the opening day, at 2:00 pm, 4:30 pm, and 7:30 pm.

Like Uimastadion, Kumpula has been prepared to the highest standard for the summer. Kumpula also has a beach volleyball and basketball court, a quality outdoor gym, ping pong tables, and picnic and children's play areas. Additionally, more picnic tables have been installed, where visitors can play games like chess or Ludo. Visitors can borrow game pieces, as well as boxing, basketball, and beach volleyball equipment, in exchange for a deposit. Kumpula also has a café-restaurant for visitors to enjoy.

The opening of Uimastadion and Kumpula outdoor pools marks the beginning of summer in Helsinki. Whether visitors want to relax by the pool, enjoy water aerobics, play games with friends, or enjoy the live music, there is something for everyone.
