THE EMPLOYMENT RATE stayed mostly unchanged in Finland in August.

Statistics Finland on Tuesday reported that the trend of the employment rate stood at 73.6 per cent, 0.1 percentage points higher than the revised rate for July. The ranks of the employed grew by 30,000 from the previous year, as roughly 19,000 women and 10,000 men joined the ranks.

The employment rate rose by 0.7 points to 74.9 per cent for men aged 15–64 years and by 1.0 points to 73.5 per cent for women aged 15–64 years.

The trend of the unemployment rate similarly crept up by 0.1 points from the previous month to 7.1 per cent, with the ranks of the unemployed growing by roughly 8,000. The rate rose by 0.2 points for both men and women, to 7.0 and 6.3 per cent, respectively.

Altogether some 2,618,000 people were employed and almost 190,000 unemployed in Finland in August.
