Teuvo Hakkarainen (PS), a second-term Member of Parliament from Central Finland, is set to face criminal charges for assaulting and sexually harassing his colleague, Veera Ruoho (NCP), in the Finnish Parliament.

YLE on Monday reported that a prosecutor has decided to bring charges in connection with the incident that took place in the canteen of the Parliament House on 14 December, 2018.

The case, it wrote, has been submitted to the District Court of Helsinki.

Neither the suspect nor the injured party, however, was aware of the outcome of the consideration of charges. “I haven’t heard anything about [the consideration of charges] after the interrogations,” Hakkarainen said in a text message to YLE.

“I’m aware that charges are being considered in the case, but I’m not aware of the conclusions drawn from the consideration of charges,” commented Ruoho.

Hakkarainen has admitted to grabbing his colleague in the canteen while inebriated after the pikkujoulu party of the Finns Party on 14 December. He has also apologised for his behaviour and promised to seek help for his alcohol problem.
