CELEBRATING 15 years of international urban art this year, the URB14 festival is being staged until 10 August at Kiasma Theatre.
Featuring speech, street arts, dance, theatre, movies and expeditions to the local urban environment, the festival takes the following categories as a leaping off point:
"Something in common?", "personal?", "political?", "urban?", "traditional?", "new?", "fun?", "irritating?" and "to whom?".
Once again, the festival is directing its focus especially towards young artists and audiences. First staged in 2000, during the ten days of URB this year the richness and diversity of urban art sees Finnish and international artists and projects coming together. The restrictions placed by the boundaries of everyday life are stretched to breaking point, with the festival creating a platform for encounters with the audience and young artists to point out the urban culture and the position of the art in it.
