TRUMP'S PRESS CONFERENCE WITH PRESIDENT NIINISTÖ on Wednesday evening sparked a number of commentaries, with much of the session consisting of Trump railing against the US Democratic Party, who launched impeachment proceedings against him last week. However, what happened during Trump and Niinisto's meeting prior to the press conference is also sparking speculation.

  • Finnish politics is boring—hooray!

    Finnish politics is boring.

A right-of-center coalition takes office, safety net programs are slimmed, the belt tightened for schools and universities, taxes raised and the deficit wiped out. A left-of-center coalition wins the next election, budget cuts are undone, new initiatives introduced and a modest deficit results.

Whether center-left or center-right, the winning coalition adopts an agenda that ever so gently rocks the boat.

  • Washington.. We Have A Problem

The short: The Trump Administration wants the Maduro Administration to leave.  H.E. Nicolas Maduro, President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela wants to stay.  The governments of the Russian Federation and People’s Republic of China believe that the repayments of what could be approaching US$100 billion might be best served by President Maduro remaining in office.  The Republic of Cuba wants the Chavez Administration (1999-2013) to return.

If the Trump Administration provided assurances that the commercial interests of each country, which are not the same with respect to what they have received and what they want would be guaranteed, they each might support the removal of President Maduro and his exile to the Republic of Cuba.
