  • 1,400-year-old Chinese irrigation project resumes operations

    The ancient Huang Ju Irrigation Project, located in southeast China's Fujian province, has started to supply water once again, having been put into operations in early May.

    The project, with a history of more than 1,400 years, was named after its designer Huang Ju, an official of the Sui Dynasty (581-618). The system comprises two canals and could provide water to a total land area of more than 20,000 mu (1,333 hectares) when it was first put into practical use in ancient China. It was the most advanced irrigation project constructed during the Sui Dynasty.

    The automotive aftermarket refers to deals and services related to sold automobiles. Citing China Automobile Dealers Association, MOFCOM said that over 14.34 million used vehicles were traded last year in China, down by 3.9 percent from a year ago. The decrease narrowed 15.7 percent compared with that in the first half of the same year. Total transaction volume stood at 888.8 billion yuan, shrinking 5.0 percent year on year.

    The Chinese mainland on Monday reported 16 new COVID-19 cases, all imported, the National Health Commission said Tuesday.

    No suspected cases or deaths related to COVID-19 were newly reported, the commission said in its daily report.

    Also on Monday, 48 COVID-19 patients were discharged from hospitals following their recovery.
