The deficiencies detected in the permit application for the construction of a final disposal facility at Olkiluoto nuclear power plant will not delay the project, Posiva, an expert in nuclear waste management, asserts. The Radiation and Nuclear Safety Authority (STUK) has requested further details of the facility's contingency plans. “Certain documents will be reviewed and submitted to STUK this year,” Timo Seppälä, a senior manager in communications at Posiva, told Kaleva on Sunday. Posiva filed the construction permit application late last year to allow 18 months for STUK to inspect the project. “It is a tight schedule,” STUK's Kai Hämäläinen views.
