The entire staff of Kemira's paper chemicals plant in Vaasa has gone on a 24-hour strike in protest of the chemistry company's plans to shut down the facility. The plans were announced earlier this week, while the consequent co-determination negotiations are scheduled to commence on Monday. Shop steward Kari Hukkanen, citing the profitability of the plant, regards the plans as rash. “We reached new output records in the spring,” he highlights. All employees are to return to work as usual by Monday.
