China published a regulation on Sunday concerning the supervision and administration of private investment funds, the country's first administrative regulation on the sector, marking the latest move to safeguard the healthy development of the industry and protect investors.

The regulation, with 62 items in seven chapters, will come into effect on Sept. 1, 2023, the State Council said in a statement.

The regulation aims to encourage the standardized and healthy development of the private investment fund industry, better protect the legitimate rights and interests of investors, and encourage the industry to further play a role in serving the real economy and promoting scientific and technological innovation.

In front of a carving on the peaceful liberation of Tibet, Dainzin Lhamo, 58, was lost in a sea of memories.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon in Beijing on Wednesday.

Noting that China-Tajikistan relations have realized leapfrog development in recent years under the strategic guidance of President Xi Jinping and President Emomali Rahmon, Li said China is willing to further synergize development strategies with Tajikistan, deepen win-win cooperation and share new opportunities brought about by Chinese modernization, to continuously make the pie of bilateral cooperation bigger and more substantial and deliver more tangible benefits to the two peoples.

China's consumer price index (CPI), a main gauge of inflation, came in flat in June compared with the same period last year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Monday.

The figure was lower than the 0.2-percent increase in May.

In breakdown, food prices rose 2.3 percent from a year earlier while prices of non-food items edged down 0.6 percent year on year.

On a monthly basis, the prices were slightly down by 0.2 percent.

"In June, the CPI was generally stable," said NBS statistician Dong Lijuan.

Chinese President Xi Jinping will chair the China-Central Asia Summit in Xi'an, northwest China's Shaanxi province on May 18 and 19.

The event is the first summit held offline by the heads of state of China and Central Asian countries since establishing diplomatic ties 31 years ago. The summit will mark a significant milestone in the development of relations between China and Central Asian countries.

"To build consensus on cooperation and promote common development, I have put forward the Global Development Initiative in order to help accelerate the implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and I am pleased to see that with the joint participation of all parties, cooperation on the Global Development Initiative has yielded important early results and benefited many developing countries," Xi said.

* Founded about 3,100 years ago, Xi'an, which is today the capital of China's Shaanxi Province, served as the capital for 13 dynasties in Chinese history. China's Mars rover Zhurong has provided key observational evidence of liquid water at low Martian latitudes, the warmest regions on the red planet, according to a new study published in the journal Science Advances this week.

Previous studies found evidence of a large amount of liquid water on early Mars, but dramatic climate changes led to very low pressure and water vapor content, making it difficult for liquid water to exist sustainably on the present-day planet. Scientists believe that water can now only exist there in solid or gaseous forms.

As Israel marks its 75th anniversary, its embassy in China has hailed the continuously strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries. Trade and economic cooperation have consistently expanded over the past three years, despite disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"We have marched a long way since the establishment of full diplomatic relations 31 years ago," said Israel's Ambassador to China Irit Ben-Abba, at a celebration event held at the Israel Embassy in Beijing on April 28. "During the past three years, when physical interactions were scarce, our leaders exchanged numerous warm verbal and written letters, which solidified our strong political bonds based on Israel's role in the Middle East and our common cultural heritage," she said.
