Ilta-Sanomat lists weirdest baby names
Matti Kolho of the Ilta-Sanomat wrote yesterday of the wackiest names Finns give their children.
Some of the very wildest names chosen by far-out parents, such as Citi, Tiikeri (“Tiger”), Kultasydän (“Goldenheart”) and Macadamia were turned down by the supervisory board for naming of the Ministry of Justice, but among those approved last year for use were Sipuliina (roughly, “Little Onion”), Karhu (“Bear”), Hamlet, and Taikakukka (“Magic Flower”).
The new entries join a long list of previously approved oddities, several of which have been given to, or inflicted on, a surprising number of unsuspecting babies: according to the Ilta-Sanomat, there are 10 people in Finland with the first name Tarzan, less than 10 called Kalja (“Beer”), the same number called Nokia, and a whopping 80 – 65 females and 15 males – answering to the first name of Muna (“Egg”).
