Solidium boss: cronyism in industry hard to avoid in a small country
The furore over the revelations of Finnair chief executive Mika Vehviläinen’s wheeling and dealing for personal gain at public expense is just the latest indication of the cliquishness that seems to abound in the Finnish business sector.
However, according to Kari Järvinen, the head of the wholly State-owned holding company Solidium, cosy links between influential business figures are hard to avoid in a small country like Finland. ‘If there are connections, one has to make broad-based inquiries as to whether they affect a particular person’s ability to operate on the board of a company,’ he said.
