Slight drop in unemployment level
According to figured just released by the national statistics agency Statistics Finland, the number of people out of work dropped in January to 7.8 per cent. This is 0.4 per cent lower than the same time last year. This January 203,000 working-age adults were registered as unemployed, 12,000 less than in January 2011. The unemployment rate among young adults is now 24.4 per cent, 1.3 per cent less than a year ago.
The Ministry of Employment and the Economy also released its own findings yesterday, according to which unemployment levels have risen in North Karelia, Central Finland and the island of Åland. Elsewhere in the country the level has dropped.
