Kuneri's products open new possibilities for mobile
phone users, including interactive media and web
applications.

For such a small company, Kuneri is definitely attracting a lot of attention. Kuneri is an Oulu-based mobile innovation company known for its Flash Lite-oriented technologies. Earlier this year telecom giant Nokia chose Kuneri along with eight other companies to join its Forum Nokia Innovation Series. The company has come a long way in two years.

"We started up in late 2006 in Oulu," says CEO Ugur Kaner. "There are six highly talented people working in our Oulu team, as well as others working with us from Turkey and Russia. When Flash Lite is in the context, we are one of the best in the world, which has a big effect on our current situation and growth." Flash Lite is software for mobile electronic devices, allowing users to browse the web, watch videos or access other interactive applications.

Kuneri is considering opening an office in the Helsinki area. "Yes, that’s inevitable in Finland," explains Kaner. "Although Oulu is a great place for a company for many reasons, a majority of businesses still run in Helsinki. Most of our clients and partners are located in the capital area. Being in Helsinki means being closer to them, which makes communications and business easier. At the moment, we are interested in Otaniemi as it seems to be the most suitable place for us."

Besides looking for possible new offices, Kuneri is looking forward to more business in the new year. "Despite the economic situation, we are very excited about 2009," reports Kaner. "Our newest Web 2.0 product Pikkoo allows anyone to download, create and share interactive mobile screensavers and wallpapers for free. Just after the Pikkoo announcement, we received an award in London from a jury of Nokia, Samsung, Motorola, Symbian, Orange and Navteq. This doubled our motivation and enthusiasm, therefore we are looking forward to see what the upcoming year will bring to us and Finland."
