There has been a slow increase in paternity cases this decade, the Jyväskylä-based daily Keskisuomalainen reports.

”It has become more common for paternity to be decided at district court level. The amount of cases has grown in the 2000s. Nowadays there are over 200 paternity cases per year. For example, in 2008 there were 151 cases of paternity acknowledgement, and 74 cases of paternity denial at the district court level.

The judicial statistics of Statistics Finland reveal that the amount of paternity acknowledgement cases has been slowly increasing since the beginning of this decade. In 2001, for example, there were 105 such cases.”
