Mikko Paatero, Finland's national police commissioner, was quoted as saying by national daily Helsingin Sanomat on Thursday that the supreme police command would look into the Security Police's actions over a Finnish citizen deported from Sweden.

The paper had quoted Swedish justice ministry documents as saying Wednesday that a man of North African origin had been deported to Finland over suspected involvement in a terrorist organisation.

According to Helsingin Sanomat the Finnish Security Police (Supo) reported the man to the Helsinki police on suspected benefit fraud before Sweden's decision to deport him.

Commissioner Paatero was quoted as saying that the interior ministry's police department would establish whether Supo had used the Helsinki police as an intermediary to gather intelligence on the man's alleged terror links.

He went on to tell the paper that nothing had come to light to suggest that Supo had overstepped the mark.
