An aerial view from a Pakistan army rescue helicopter shows water supplies being thrown to residents in a flood-affected area on the outskirts of Sukkur on August 9, 2010. Around 13.8 million people have been affected by massive floods in Pakistan, making the scale of the disaster worse than the devastating 2004 tsunami, a UN official said.

FinnChurchAid (KUA) is sending food, supplies and tents to the areas of Pakistan stricken by floods, while Finland's Red Cross has sent three aid workers, the organisations said in their statements on Monday. In addition, FinnChurchAid is supporting transportable clinics and is also preparing to send aid workers to the flooded regions.
Finland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs gave FinnChurchAid 200,000 euros for providing aid to Pakistan, and last week the organisation diverted 50,000 euros from its catastrophe fund to help the flood victims.
The Red Cross aid workers are to help with receiving aid equipment, such as tents and food, and sending it onwards to regions affected by the flood.
Around 1,600 people have lost their lives due to the flooding in north-western Pakistan. The country has requested international assistance to deal with the damage.
