Finnish miner Talvivaara said in a statement Monday it was planning starting the recovery and exploitation of uranium at its nickel mine in Sotkamo.
"Talvivaara is currently preparing necessary documentation for permit applications and continuing its investigations relating to the utilisation of uranium," the statement added.
Talvivaara said the recovery of uranium would require an investment of about 30 million euros, with annual extraction estimated at some 350 tonnes.
"The volumes produced by Talvivaara would make Finland almost self-sufficient with respect to uranium."
