The Vancouver-based group The New Pornographers play at Tavastia this Sunday.

THE VANCOUVER indie rock supergroup The New Pornographers arrive to play a one-night gig at Tavastia club in Helsinki this weekend. The nine strong group released its latest album Together in May and lands in Finland as part of a tour that takes them around Scandinavia, the US and all the way down to Australia and New Zealand before a return back to Europe.

The band is the brainchild of the talented Carl Newman, known to some from his previous group Zumpano. Newman formed The New Pornographers already in the late 90s, but as most of the group members – all prominent figures within the Vancouver music scene – had their hands in many pies at the time, the group members dispersed to attend to their respective projects until 2000 when they reunited to record their debut album Mass Romantic. The album was released to critical acclaim and the group has pushed out another five since then – and gathered a solid following for itself the world over.
