President Sauli Niinistö issued his second order of the day of the Commander-in-Chief to commemorate the one-hundredth year of Finnish independence.

President Sauli Niinistö on Wednesday issued only his second order of the day of the Commander-in-Chief to commemorate the centenary of Finnish independence.

“A lifetime has already passed since the tumult of the wars. However, we must never forget these fateful moments for our nation. They remind us of how high a price was paid for the independence of our home country,” he states.

Niinistö also reminded that independence is not only a gift, but also a task.

“By fostering the well-being of Finland and Finns and ensuring that our country remains a safe place to live, we can guarantee our ability to make decisions from our own perspectives also in the future. That way we can also show our respect for the efforts and sacrifices made by the previous generations,” he says.
