Aalto University announced on Friday that it will shed a total of 316 positions by the end of 2018.
A total of 188 staff members – 109 members of the teaching and research staff as well as 79 members of the service staff – will be laid off, while the rest of the personnel cuts will be implemented through non-renewals of fixed term contracts and other similar arrangements.
The objective of the statutory negotiations was to adapt the operations of the university to the bleak economic conditions in a way that secures the long-term future of its teaching, research and innovation activities.
The annual funding of Aalto University is set to decrease by an estimated 66 million euros from the levels of 2015 by 2018. Overall, the funding will decrease by 136 million euros in 2016–2018.
