Pekka Ottavainen, the board chairman of the nuclear energy company Fennovoima Oy, estimates that the ownership structure of the Pyhäjoki nuclear power plant project must be resolved by next summer. Regardless of yesterday’s announcement by the German energy company, E.On to withdraw from Finland and thereby abandon its 34 per cent stake in Fennovoima, the chairman remains confident about the project’s future. According to Ottavainen, all Fennovoima’s stakeholders – including E.On – are committed to completing the next stage of the Pyhäjoki project. Meanwhile, the second largest stakeholder of Fennovoima, the stainless steel manufacturer Outokumpu has communicated it has no intentions to bump up its stake in the project.
